Help build what comes next
This community is being built by Iowa MFTs, for Iowa MFTs, and there is room at the table for you. Whether you want to help lead as a board member or lend a hand on a committee, we would love to hear from you.
For nearly a decade, our profession in Iowa has not had a home of its own. Now that we are official, the people who step up in these first years will shape what this community becomes, from the continuing education we offer to the voice we bring to the Capitol. You do not need to have done this before. You just need to care about where our field is headed.
Serving on the Board of Directors
Who can serve
The Board guides the direction of the Association, sets priorities, and makes sure we are using our resources well. Board members serve two-year terms, which can be renewed up to three times, and new terms begin on January 1 following the election. Board members must be members of the Association in good standing. At-large seats are open to Clinical, Pre-Clinical, and Affiliate Members. One seat is set aside for a Pre-Clinical or Student Member, so our newest colleagues always have a voice, and one seat may be held by someone living outside Iowa.
Officer roles
- President leads the Association and presides over board and membership meetings.
- President-Elect supports the President and steps into the role after a two-year term.
- Secretary keeps our records, minutes, and member roster.
- Treasurer oversees our finances and prepares the annual budget.

Why serve on the IAMFT Board?
By serving on the Board, you have the unique opportunity to shape the future of marriage and family therapy in Iowa. You will help build a professional home for your colleagues and ensure our field has a powerful, unified voice at the Capitol to lead our field where it needs to go.
